Violent Attacks on Dog Feeders in Delhi-NCR Spark Fear and Confusion🐕
Supreme Court Order and Public Confusion⚖️
The Supreme Court had recently ruled that while sterilised dogs must be released back, public feeding is banned and must only be carried out at designated feeding spots. However, activists argue that the ruling is contradictory and poorly implemented.
Animal rights activist and politician Maneka Gandhi explained: “There is confusion between the first and second pronouncements. Legally, you can feed dogs anywhere until official boards for feeding spots are put up.”
Violent Incident in Gurugram🚨
Prashanto Samanpa, a 29-year-old dog feeder, suffered severe back injuries after being beaten with a wooden stick in Gurugram’s Sector 28. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
"The doctor said I have a bone injury. The fear I have in my mind has drained all my energy," said Samanpa, who also alleged that his attacker threatened to kill him.
Attacks in West Delhi👊
In Paschim Vihar, Neeti Khattar was brutally attacked while feeding dogs. Videos showed a man punching her in the face, leaving her bloodied and shaken.
"I’ve faced verbal abuse before, but this is the worst. Now I fear for my family’s safety," she said.
Confrontation with Police in Laxmi Nagar🚔
Pankhuri Sharma, 28, accused a police inspector of harassing her after she confronted him for allegedly attacking a dog. She claimed the inspector shouted at her despite her efforts to involve an NGO.
However, DCP East Delhi Abhishek Dhania dismissed the claims, stating: “A dog had bitten a child, and some force may have been used to save the child. The rest is a made-up story.”
Noida Incident: Threats and Intimidation😨
In Noida’s Sector 76, Aditi Shrivastava and her mother faced hostility from a group of men while feeding a stray dog. The men allegedly shouted at them, threatened them, and even blocked their path as they tried to leave.
MCD’s Plan for Designated Feeding Spots🏢
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has promised to identify and establish designated feeding zones within a month. Inspectors, health officials, and RWA members have been tasked with marking these areas to reduce conflict between residents and animal feeders.
Conclusion📌
The recent spate of violence highlights the urgent need for clear guidelines and swift implementation of designated feeding areas to protect both dog feeders and community harmony. Until then, confusion and conflict seem likely to continue.
