India Urges Mali to Ensure Safe Release of Abducted Nationals

New Delhi: India on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the abduction of three of its nationals in Mali, urging the West African nation’s government to ensure their “safe and expeditious” release.

The three Indians, employed at the Diamond Cement Factory in Kayes, were kidnapped on July 1 when armed assailants launched a coordinated attack on the factory premises, taking them hostage, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
Responsibility Claim Status🔍
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the abductions. However, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), has claimed responsibility for coordinated attacks across Mali on Tuesday.

“The government of India unequivocally condemns this deplorable act of violence and calls upon the government of Mali to take all necessary measures to secure the safe and expeditious release of the abducted Indian nationals,” the MEA said in a statement.
Actions Taken by Indian Authorities📞
The Indian embassy in Bamako is in “close and constant” communication with local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and the management of Diamond Cement Factory, and is also in touch with the families of the abducted workers.
“Senior officials of the ministry are closely monitoring the evolving situation and remain engaged at various levels to facilitate their safe and early release,” the statement added.

The MEA also advised all Indian nationals residing in Mali to remain vigilant, exercise utmost caution, and stay in close contact with the embassy for regular updates and necessary assistance.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring the “safe return of the abducted Indian nationals at the earliest”.
