Zeeshan Akhtar Arrested in Canada in Connection with Baba Siddique Murder Case
Maharashtra Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, announced on Wednesday that Zeeshan Akhtar, a key suspect in the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique, has been arrested in Canada.
“Zeeshan, who was involved in the Baba Siddique murder case, has been arrested in Canada. We have initiated the process to bring him back to India. He will be interrogated further upon his return,” Kadam told the media.
Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead on October 12, 2024, outside the Bandra office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique. So far, police have arrested at least 25 individuals in the case.
Who is Zeeshan Akhtar?🔍
According to Mumbai Police, Zeeshan Akhtar is closely linked to gangster networks, having allegedly acted under orders from Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar were allegedly hired to execute the murder of Baba Siddique.
His criminal involvement spans multiple serious offenses:
- Named as a key conspirator in a grenade attack on senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s house in Punjab on April 7, 2024. Fortunately, no one was injured.
- Charged in a failed grenade attack on YouTuber Rozer Sandhu’s residence on March 16, 2024.
Video Confession and Asylum Claims🎥
In February 2025, a video surfaced in which Zeeshan Akhtar claimed he had secured asylum in a foreign country with the help of Pakistani gangster Shehzad Bhatti, whom he referred to as his “elder brother.”
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch confirmed that the man in the video is indeed Zeeshan Akhtar. The investigation is ongoing to verify the claims he made regarding his asylum and alleged international ties.
