18-Year-Old DU Student Murdered and Burnt in Sanjay Van After Rejecting Stalker🚨

New Delhi: Shocking Crime in the Heart of the Capital📍

An 18-year-old woman was brutally murdered and her body set on fire in Delhi’s Sanjay Van on Sunday by a man who had reportedly been stalking her for months, police confirmed on Monday. Both the victim and the accused were first-year students of Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL).

Accused Identified as Arshkrit Singh👤

The alleged murderer, Arshkrit Singh, a resident of Rani Bagh, has been arrested. The victim, who lived with her parents and elder sister in Jahangirpuri, had been attending SOL and also pursued other academic courses.

The Victim’s Last Day: From College to Disappearance🕵️‍♂️

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan, the young woman left home Sunday morning for classes. Around noon, she called her mother saying she would be home soon—but never returned. Later that afternoon, the victim’s father received a call from Singh’s father, who claimed that the woman had stabbed Singh at Sanjay Van and that his son had been hospitalized in Pitampura.

Family Alarmed and Search Begins🚨

The woman’s family, alarmed by the call, began searching for her in Sanjay Van but couldn't locate her. They then approached Mehrauli Police Station and reported that Singh had been harassing their daughter. Based on their statement, an FIR under Section 140(1) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered, and an investigation was launched immediately.

CCTV, Interrogation, and a Confession📹

Police reviewed CCTV footage from Sanjay Van, which helped trace Singh to the hospital in Pitampura. Upon being brought in for questioning, Singh confessed to the heinous crime. He admitted that he had called the victim to meet him at Sanjay Van. He then led her to a secluded area where he stabbed and strangled her before attempting to burn the body in an effort to destroy evidence.

Accused Fakes Story After Committing the Crime🩺

Singh sustained minor injuries during the attack and checked himself into a hospital. There, he concocted a false story and called his father, alleging that he was attacked by the victim—a version his father relayed to her family.

Burnt Body Recovered from Sanjay Van🕯️

After Singh's confession, police located the victim’s partially burnt body deep inside the forest area of Sanjay Van. The murder weapon was recovered, and charges of Section 103(1) (murder) and Section 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) were added to the FIR.

A Bright Student Silenced🎓

The victim’s father described her as intelligent and hardworking. In addition to her undergraduate studies, she attended weekend classes at a college in East Delhi and was enrolled in a private language institute.

Prior Stalking Incidents Ignored💔

The victim's 22-year-old sister revealed that Singh had been stalking her sibling for over a year. "He even created a scene at her language institute and came to our home once, blaming our mother and damaging her phone," she said. Despite warning Singh that they would involve the police, the family never followed through. "We didn’t think it would come to this," her sister said tearfully.

Miscommunication Delays Investigation🚨

After the family received the misleading call from Singh’s father, they initially approached Jahangirpuri police station but were redirected to Mehrauli. Only after Singh's interrogation did the full truth emerge.

Justice Begins, But a Life is Lost🕊️

Police have now arrested Singh and initiated a full investigation. The case is a chilling reminder of the dangers of stalking and the importance of acting on early warning signs. --- If you or someone you know is experiencing stalking or harassment, reach out to authorities or a support organization immediately.
