Delhi Records Season’s Hottest Day at 43.8°C, Heatwave Alert Issued🔥
NEW DELHI (June 11): Delhi experienced its hottest day of the year on Tuesday as temperatures soared to 43.8°C at Safdarjung, the city's main weather station — four degrees above normal.
The "real-feel" temperature hit a scorching 47.7°C, intensifying heatwave conditions across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Wednesday, warning residents of continued extreme heat.
Heatwave Grips Multiple Zones🌡️
According to IMD weather expert Krishna Mishra, heatwave conditions were reported in:
- Ayanagar: 45.5°C (highest)
- Ridge: 45°C
- Pitampura: 44.8°C
- Palam: 44.6°C
- Lodhi Road: 43.6°C
A heatwave is officially declared when the temperature reaches 45°C or more, or when it exceeds 40°C with a deviation of 4.5°C above normal. By this standard, at least three parts of Delhi were under heatwave conditions.
What’s Fueling the Heat?🌬️
The relentless rise in temperature is being driven by:
- Hot, dry westerly winds
- Low humidity levels between 24% to 48%
These factors combined to make Tuesday hotter than Monday (which peaked at 43.4°C). May 16's 42.3°C now ranks as the third hottest day this season.
IMD Weather Forecast for Delhi⛈️
The IMD predicts no significant relief before June 13. However:
- Thunderstorms and rainfall may begin around Thursday (June 12) as moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal move in.
- Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand could start receiving showers from June 11.
Until then, Delhi can expect:
- Temperatures between 44°C and 46°C
- Gusty winds up to 40 km/h, adding to the discomfort
