Air India Suspends Flights to Middle East, North America, and Europe Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions 🌍✈️
“In light of the evolving situation in the Middle East, Air India has suspended all operations to the region and to and from the East Coast of North America and Europe with immediate effect, until further notice,” an airline spokesperson confirmed in a statement.
As a result, services to multiple European destinations and five major North American airports — New York, Newark, Chicago, Washington, and Toronto — have been temporarily halted.
Airspace Closures Disrupt Operations🚫
Following Iran’s missile attack on US military facilities, including the Al Udeid base in Qatar, several countries, including Qatar, have closed their airspace, causing widespread disruption to regional and international flight schedules.
To ensure passenger safety, Air India has begun diverting or re-routing flights to avoid conflict zones and restricted airspaces.
“Our India-bound flights from North America are either returning to their departure airports or being redirected to safer routes that bypass affected airspaces,” the spokesperson added.
Appeal for Patience🙏
The airline urged passengers to remain patient during this unexpected crisis.
“We ask for our passengers’ understanding during this challenging time, which is beyond our control,” Air India said, assuring that it is closely monitoring developments.
Safety is Top Priority🔒
Reiterating its commitment to safety, Air India stated that it is working in close coordination with external security advisors and will keep travelers updated as the situation progresses.
“The safety and security of our passengers and crew remain our highest priority,” the airline emphasized.
Air India Express Flights Also Affected🛫
Air India Express, the airline’s budget subsidiary, has also adjusted its operations due to the conflict.
“Our Doha-bound flight from Kochi has been diverted to Muscat, and our flight from Kannur has returned to its origin,” the carrier confirmed.
Air India Express operates 25 weekly direct flights to Doha from Kannur, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tiruchchirappalli. It also connects Doha to eight other Indian cities — Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune — through one-stop services.
The suspension of services adds to the growing list of global airlines forced to reroute or ground flights amid concerns over a broader regional conflict.
