Two tourists have tragically lost their lives and several others are feared drowned after a bridge over the Indrayani river in Pune collapsed, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed. A total of 32 people sustained injuries, with six reported to be in critical condition.

The incident took place on Sunday at Kundmala, a well-known tourist spot that attracts large crowds during the monsoon season. The bridge was packed with visitors when it suddenly gave way, plunging many into the swollen river. Some victims were swept away by the strong currents.

Immediate Response🚨

Police, local authorities, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) swiftly reached the site and launched rescue operations. So far, six people have been rescued from the river.

“As some people have been swept away, an extensive search operation is underway. The NDRF has been deployed at the site, and relief work has been intensified,” Mr. Fadnavis shared in a post written in Marathi.

Weather Alert & Local Concerns⚠️

The bridge collapse occurred in Pune rural’s Maval area, which remains under an orange alert due to heavy to very heavy rain forecasts in the ghat regions. The area had already received significant rainfall in the last two days.

Locals had reportedly raised concerns about the structural safety of the bridge, which was renovated 4-5 years ago. Unfortunately, many tourists visiting the spot were unaware of the potential danger.
