New Delhi: A 40-year-old television actor, who had been on the run from police for three weeks, was arrested in Pune for allegedly gang-raping a 24-year-old woman during a party in north Delhi's Civil Lines area on August 10, police said on Wednesday.

Police Confirmation👮

Deputy commissioner of police (north) Raja Banthia confirmed that the arrest took place in Pune on Tuesday. The actor, identified by the victim as the "primary perpetrator," was caught after a coordinated manhunt across multiple states.

Background of the Accused🎭

The accused, a Civil Lines resident, has appeared in several television shows, often in lead roles. Investigators noted that two other suspects in the case received anticipatory bail before their arrest, making him the only one still at large until Tuesday.

How Police Traced Him🔎

A senior officer revealed that the accused was initially tracked to Goa, but managed to slip away before police could reach him. He was later traced to Pune, where he was staying with a friend, leading to his eventual arrest.

The Incident📅

The case surfaced in the early hours of August 11, when the victim, a Gurugram-based professional, reported being sexually assaulted by four men at a party. She had been invited to the gathering by a friend on Under Hill Road in Civil Lines.

Victim’s Complaint📝

According to her statement, she socialised with the actor and three others at the party. After consuming alcohol, she began feeling disoriented and suspected her drink had been tampered with. She alleged that the men then took her to a washroom, where they gang-raped and physically assaulted her while recording the act. They allegedly threatened to circulate the video on social media if she reported the crime.

Immediate Response🚑

The accused dropped her outside her Punjabi Bagh residence, after which she immediately contacted police. A female officer accompanied her for a medical examination, and her family was informed with counselling arranged.

Legal Action⚖️

Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered at Civil Lines police station on August 11 under Section 64 (punishment for rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During her statement before a magistrate, she named the actor as the "primary perpetrator." Two suspects secured anticipatory bail, while the actor’s own request for bail was pending when he was arrested in Pune.

Final Arrest✅

After slipping away in Goa, the actor was finally caught in Pune at a friend’s residence. He is now in police custody as investigations continue.
