The Threat Message📩
The anonymous message, sent to the traffic police’s control room helpline, claimed that “human bombs” had been planted in 34 vehicles across Mumbai. It further alleged that 14 Pakistani terrorists had infiltrated India and smuggled in 400 kilograms of RDX, with the potential to kill “one crore people.” The sender claimed to represent a group calling itself “Lashkar-e-Jihadi.”
Security Measures Intensified🔒
In response, Mumbai Police immediately tightened security, rolling out extensive checks at parking lots, basements, and other sensitive locations. More than 21,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city to ensure the safety of lakhs of devotees expected to throng the streets for tomorrow’s Ganesh idol immersion processions.
“We are not taking any chances. Every possible location, from public spaces to high-security zones, is being thoroughly checked. Our forces are fully prepared to deal with any situation,” a senior police officer assured. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has also joined the efforts with technical surveillance and ground-level verifications.
Arrest in Noida Linked to Threat👮
Amid growing concerns, police traced the alleged sender of the message. The accused, identified as Ashwini, was arrested from Noida’s Sector 113 in Uttar Pradesh. The arrest came after Mumbai Police shared interrogation inputs with Noida Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh. A special Noida police team nabbed Ashwini and handed him over to Mumbai Police for further investigation.
Hoax or Real Threat?❓
While initial analysis suggests the message might be a hoax, officials remain vigilant. “Traffic police have received such threats in the past. Still, we are taking every precaution because of the high footfall expected during immersion day,” an officer explained. Security has been reinforced at key locations, and combing operations are ongoing.
A case has been registered at Worli Police Station under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with subsections 2, 3, and 4. Investigators are probing the motive and possible collaborators.

Ganesh Chaturthi is Mumbai’s grandest festival, attracting lakhs of devotees from across Maharashtra and beyond. The finale—Anant Chaturdashi—marks the immersion of Lord Ganesha’s idols into the Arabian Sea, rivers, lakes, and artificial ponds. This makes it one of the largest public gatherings of the year and particularly sensitive from a security standpoint.
Police have appealed to citizens to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and report any suspicious activities immediately. “There is no need to panic. The situation is under control, and all agencies are fully alert,” officials reassured.
