Raja and Sonam, newlyweds from Indore, went on a honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 21. Just two days later, the couple went missing in the Sohra region of East Khasi Hills.
Raja’s body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls — 20km from their last known location. A bloodstained machete, missing jewelry, and a raincoat were also found at the scene.

Police investigations revealed that Sonam had allegedly conspired with her ex-lover, Kushwaha, to murder Raja. The couple had met two years ago at her brother’s plywood factory. They reportedly planned the murder in advance, targeting Raja during their honeymoon.
According to police, Kushwaha hired three men — Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Thakur — to carry out the killing. The plan was to murder Raja in a remote area, dispose of the body, and start a new life together.
