A British F-35 fighter jet made an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala on Saturday night. The landing was reportedly due to low fuel and rough sea conditions, according to airport officials.

The jet had taken off from a British aircraft carrier located approximately 100 nautical miles off the Indian coast. After facing fuel shortage and adverse sea conditions, the pilot sought permission to land at the nearest safe location.

The fighter jet landed safely around 9:30 pm on Saturday. To ensure a smooth landing, the airport authorities declared an emergency and provided the necessary support.

Airport officials confirmed that the jet has been refuelled and will be allowed to depart once the required clearances are obtained from Indian authorities. “The jet is currently at the airport, and the refuelling has been completed,” an official said.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) stated that it was fully aware of the situation and assisted in ensuring flight safety. An IAF spokesperson told PTI news agency, “A normal occurrence of diversion by an F-35. The IAF is fully aware and facilitated the aircraft for flight safety reasons.”
The IAF added that all necessary support is being provided and coordination with various agencies is ongoing.
