๐️ CHANDIGARH: Six members of a family originally from Hisar, Haryana, were found dead in a car parked in a vacant plot in Panchkula on Monday night, and a seventh died in hospital in what police suspect to be a sui-cide pact arising from financial distress.
-
๐ง๐ฉ๐ง๐ฆ The police identified the deceased as a 42-year-old man, his wife, the couple's three chil-dren, including their 14-year-old son and 9-year-old twin girls, and the man's elderly parents.
-
๐ฎ Panchkula deputy commis sioner of police Himadri Kaushik, said: "Prima facie, it appears to be a matter of suicide. However, further investigations are on."
-
๐ According to the police, the man and his family shifted from Dehradun, Uttarakhand to his father-in-law's home in Pinjore, Haryana a year ago, and then, about a month ago, they moved to a rented accommodation in Saketri on the outskirts of Panchkula.
-
๐ฃ️ Manish Chaudhary, who rented out two rooms to the family in Saketri said: "On Mon-day morning, the family called me to inform me that they were going to be travelling for three days."
-
๐ถ♂️ Harshit Rana, a resident of sector 27, Panchkula said he was out for a walk around 10pm when he spotted the Dehradun-registered Hyundai car. He found six people motionless, and a seventh, the 42-year old man breathing with difficulty, inside the car.
-
๐ Rana claimed that the man managed to tell him that his family was under huge debt. In the driver's seat, he told him, "I am under huge debt and will also die in five minutes. My mil-lionaire family did not help me."
-
❓ It is not clear who the man was referring to.
-
๐ค Vikram Nehra, Assistant Commissioner of Police, HQ, said two suicide notes purport-edly signed by the 42-year-old man were recovered from the ัะฐะณ.
-
๐ "I have gone bankrupt. I am responsible for all this. My father-in-law should not per-form my last rites. The last rites of my family members shall be performed by my cousin," one note said, according to the police.
-
๐งช Nehra added that powdered sodium nitrate was found in a bottle, along with empty con-tainers and carbonated drinks. "It appears that the 42-year-old first ensured that all six family members died before taking his own life, as he succumbed nearly an hour after being shifted to the hospital."
-
๐ธ According to relatives, the family first suffered heavy finan-cial losses between 2005 and 2008, prompting them to even-tually leave Panchkula. One of them said the family owned a actory in Baddi, Himachal Pra-desh.
-
๐ They first relocated to Deh-radun in 2015, where the man started a travel business but that too failed, the relative added, asking not to be named.
-
๐ A second relative said the business losses amounted to around 7 crore.
-
๐ง "We met at a family function on April 30, but they were clearly under financial and emo-tional stress," he said.
-
๐ The car in which they died was registered in the name of a Dehradun resident, Gambhir Singh Negi, a resident of Deh-radun, who identified himself as a friend of the head of the family, whom he had known since 2017.
-
๐ The friend said he had spoken to the 42-year-old man a week ago, and the victim sounded worried about how he would repay his debts.
-
๐ข "He ran a non-governmental organisation (NGO), where I worked for about a month and a half," Negi said.
